Vineyard
Our vineyard situated at Light Pass in the Northeast Barossa Valley, has an elevation just shy of 300m. Eden Valley, only a couple of km`s away to our East is where the North Para River rises and flows out of the hills through our vineyard, bringing cooling gully breezes during the summer months - perfect for growing fine, delicate, zesty `Rizza`!
Vintage
We cannot remember an earlier start or finish to a vintage. In 2025, quality across the board looked great. Although yields were variable depending on block and variety, most of our blocks achieved 80 to 90% of normal crops. The Barossa’s ability to thrive despite the variability of weather, gives us confidence that we can call 2025 yet another vintage to savour and celebrate.
Winemaking
Picked early in the season to retain natural acidity and delicacy. Promptly pressed, taking free run juice only. Bright clarified juice is fermented cool before stabilization, and into bottle.
Tasting Notes
In the glass the wine shows a bright pale straw colour with green hues. Aromatically the wine opens with delicately lifted florals, lemon zest and some Granny Smith crunch. A pure line of citrus lingers, its finely textured, crisp, and refreshing on the palate. A wine to enjoy now or over the next few years.

100% Semillon
Single Vineyard, Old Vine
Light Pass, Barossa Valley
Vineyard
Planted in 1936 by 4th generation Herbert Bernhard Scholz. The old Semillon block has seen may seasons come and go, and is a consistent producer of high-quality fruit, grown on a mixture of deep alluvial soil and red brown loam over clay on the banks of the North Para River.
Vintage 2023
The 2023 vintage required patience. After a typical Barossa winter in 2022, the arrival of spring brought above average rainfall and record-breaking low temperatures, which led to significant delay in shoot growth and bud burst.
The entire growing season proved mild and temperate, resulting in a long slow ripening season with remarkable acid retention in the grapes. The hallmark of 2023 is an abundance of intense aromatics, matched with a rich spectrum of flavours and fine natural acidity that extends across the board - all hallmarks of an exceptional vintage.
Winemaking
Whole bunches are promptly pressed, chilled and drained, retaining only free run juice. Juice is cold settled before a clean rack to ferment. Inoculated, then cool fermented in stainless steel. Soon after fermentation is complete the wine is stabilized and bottled to retain freshness and vibrancy.
Tasting Notes
Aromatics of lemongrass, ginger, spring blossoms and classic lemon and lime. Fresh citrus flavours and tight, vibrant acistructure are the hallmarks on the palate. The finish is clean and long with fruit and acid working in harmony. Semillon always rewards patient cellaring.
“Shh… I think these semillons from willows in Light Pass are a bit of a secret; 87-year-old vines and just beautiful drinking. They are coiled and wonderfully focused with pure, lemony fruits, hints of lemongrass, stone, white flowers, lemon butter, marzipan and a whiff of ginger and distant lanolin. Minerally, briny and sapid; its great stuff and a seriously undervalued white wine that is just perfect with oysters and grilled seafood.” Dave Brooks Halliday wine Companion Aug 2024 93 points.

Vintage 2024
After a late 2023 vintage, 2024 proved to be the opposite. A dry winter and spring made the vines work during the early part of the growing season. Bud burst occurred about 3 weeks earlier than the previous year. Beautiful clear spring days were followed with some cold, frosty nights. Through December and January beautiful weather saw vines flourish. 2024 quality across the board looks exceptional.
Winemaking
Fruit was picked across 2 separate dates. An early pick targeting fragrant, bright fruit and a second pick targeting more depth and structure. Fermentation Occurred in small batch open fermenters. There were 4 batches in total with varying level of whole bunch (25-100%) or extended maceration (~35days). Whole bunch fermentation adding length and softness to the structure of the wine. All batches were basket pressed to seasoned French oak for 8 months prior to bottling.
Tasting Note
Opens with lifted red fruits, lavender florals and a savoury spice profile. The palate reveals red licorice and raspberry that progresses to more complex, savoury notes of earth, citrus blossom and gingery spice. Structurally the tannins are ruffled, running long and even.

Basket pressed to seasoned French Oak. Secondary fermentation in barrel before 8 months of maturation prior to bottling.
Tasting Notes
Bright red fruits and violet florals on the nose, with savoury, wild spice and earthy notes adding another layer. Vibrant fruit, red forest berries, clove spice and an even web of fine grain tannin on the palate. Fruit for this wine is sourced from our back block 2004 planting. The soil on the block is different to that found on our lower lying blocks, highlighting the diversity of soil types across our vineyard site. Predominantly sandy loam over mottled red and yellow clay, strongly influenced by a vein of heavier textured ironstone. The combination of this soil type and the Shiraz clone 1654 produces wines with intensity of flavour and age worthy structure.

Our estate shiraz fruit is sourced from 3 different Shiraz blocks across our vineyard. Soils vary but are predominantly sandy loam over red clay.
Vintage 2021-22
Winter rainfall for 2021 was above average. The wet winter was welcome after 3 dry`ish years. Maximum temperatures were below average for the beginning of the growing season; the latter half was warmer providing good ripening conditions. A hailstorm in October weaved across the valley; the impact at the Willows was isolated. The mild and dry conditions of vintage were ideal, with winemakers talking about the wines of vintage 2022 being elegant and structured with depth and length of flavour. A great follow up to 2021!
Winemaking
Destemmed and fermented to dryness. 8 days total on skins. Basket pressed to tank. Upon completion of MLF transferred to barrel for 24 months maturation in 80% French and 20% American Oak hogsheads. We intend for the wine to be approachable as a young wine, but with ample structure to allow for cellaring.
Tasting Notes
Deep crimson in colour, powerful but graceful, showing fine balance and structure. The wine opens with spicy, dark berry notes, revealing hints of sweet cedar spice. Richly aromatic and velvety, full bodied and packed with plum, blueberry, cloves and cinnamon spices, finishing long with silky tannins.

This flagship from the Willows vineyard is a tribute to `JG` - his sons and grandsons who ran the Willows hospital for more than 100 years. Planted in 1969, this small Shiraz block consistently grows some of the best fruit from our vineyard each year. Clone unknown, the vineyard is planted on red brown loamy soil over red clay, producing small loose bunches with great concentration of flavour.
Vintage 2022
A vintage with outstanding quality fruit. The 2021/22 season went `back-to-back` with 20/21. Good rains over winter and early spring, setting up beautiful conditions for flowering and fruit set. A setback in October, when a hailstorm swept through the valley, however damage was isolated. Mild summer temperatures provided perfect conditions for ripening and harvest. A high-quality vintage.
Winemaking
Hand-picked, destemmed to small open fermenters. Hand lunged and fermented to dryness. 12 days total on skins. Basket pressed to barrel. MLF completed in barrel. 24 months in 60 % new, tight grained French Oak hogsheads & demi-muids.
Tasting Notes
This wine shows typical Barossa voluptuous richness and structure, intense and powerful fruit along with supporting fine tannins ad stylish savoury oak. It is a multi-layered powerhouse that will reward those who cellar it well.
`A deep crimson/purple hue. The nose is full of notes of chocolate, cassis and plums. All very Barossan, all very delicious. There are also touches of smoked meats, dried herbs and cocoa powder. A well-focused wine of medium length with an attractive lingering finish. Bright acidity runs the full journey, which finishes with fine, satiny tannins. A ten-year proposition, there is a lot to like here.` Vintage journal 2025 93 points.
